Gender-Responsive Humanitarian, Development and Peace (HDP) Nexus

Call for Paper - Guidelines

Background

The Humanitarian, Development, and Peace (HDP) Nexus is an intersectional approach to address multidimensional challenges, vulnerabilities, and key root causes of humanitarian crises, development, and peacebuilding. Instead of treating the dimensions of humanitarian, development, and peace as separate areas, the HDP Nexus recognizes that these dimensions are interconnected. Therefore, the issues should be addressed and coordinated in complementary interventions.

A Gender-Responsive HDP Nexus creates intersectional analysis between all three dimensions to recognize that women and men experience humanitarian crisis, development, and conflict differently. Therefore, the Gender-Responsive HDP Nexus promotes women’s meaningful participation and creates agency to build inclusive resilience and sustainable peace.

From a Global South perspective, the Gender-Responsive HDP Nexus highlights how historical, structural, and political inequalities inequitably shape how women and men experience crisis, development, and peace. Rather than treating the Global South communities as recipients of external interventions, this perspective underlines the need to recognize power relations between actors and seeks to center the voice and knowledge of the Global South communities.

Therefore, Global South Review, Volume 9, No. 1 invites scholars, practitioners, early-career researchers, students, and all people to submit their papers related to the Gender-Responsive HDP Nexus from a Global South perspective.
