There are a lot of nuclear weapons in the world today, owned by nine nuclear-armed states. Nuclear Weapons are the most destructive, inhumane and indiscriminate instruments of mass murder ever created. Over the last couple of years there has been a shift in the multilateral debate on nuclear disarmament, away from conventional arms control discourse towards a stronger focus on the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons. Although the number of nuclear weapons is declining, the risk that caused by their existence are visible and increasing. In favor of achieving a world without nuclear weapons, The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), from 2007 has begun to persuade governments to initiate and support negotiations for a treaty banning nuclear weapons.

Within this context, starting August this year until February 2014, Institute of International Studies (IIS) Department of International Relations Universitas Gadjah Mada has already made a collaboration with ICAN as their Partner Organization in Indonesia. We have done many kinds of action ever since, including joining the parade on the campaign of International Day of Peace in Yogyakarta, 20th-21st of September 2013, setting up a booth on several seminars, asking people to write down their opinion on post cards, asking a signature of each person that we met on a piece of white cloth, and many things else in the near future. Please stay tune on our website to following our campaign to ban nuclear weapons. With your help, we can make nuclear abolition a reality.  Let's make a move!
